Pre-Cambridge Maths Tutoring

Why is tutoring important before starting Cambridge Maths?

Cambridge mathematics covers an extensive list of topics and will present a challenge for even the brightest of students. You will want to have your core foundation in Maths sorted and covered before going into the Cambridge years, to give you the best chance of doing well.

What topics will be covered?

  • Algebra: this is the number one focus at this level. Algebra plays a huge part in I/GCSE and O-Level maths and is foundational to over 75% of the content covered in A-level maths. It is easily the most important topic to understand for anyone wanting to do high school level maths. Checklist for this year will include: simplifying, factorising, solving linear and quadratic equations, powers, roots, and complex fractions.
  • Trigonometry: another foundational topic that will be needed in both Maths and Physics. Soh Cah Toa and pythagoras
  • Arithmetic: despite calculators being widely utilised, it is still important for students to develop a natural sense with numbers. This will help students to more easily notice any mistakes in their workings during exams.
  • Geometry: basic knowledge of formulas for 2D and 3D shapes, parallel lines, and basic 3D thinking.
  • Stats and Probability: basic understanding of statistical concepts, calculations and how to use probability tress and tables.
